After this moment, Job finally comes to his rightful place. “I had heard of you by the ear, but now my eye sees you” (Job 42:5). Job is not someone who has fully pieced together the puzzle of suffering; rather, he is one who has met God more deeply in suffering. The restoration of Job is profoundly moving, but the core message of the book does not simply lie in receiving blessings in the end. The key is that, despite not knowing all the reasons, we can trust that God remains just, and we are called to stand humbly in trust before Him.
Today, Job is also incredibly relevant to us. When someone is suffering, relationships are broken, or prayers seem unanswered, we tend to hastily judge the cause. This applies to our own problems and the suffering of others. At such times, Job warns us against superficial interpretations. Sometimes, what is more needed is simply being present, listening without rushing to explain, and recognizing that tears come before words. By slowly reading one chapter of Job’s dialogues each day as part of 성경 읽기, and observing the repeated claims of friends and Job’s laments, the overall thread of the book becomes clearer.
Another important aspect is the direction of our questions. We often focus only on why these things happened. Of course, this question is honest and important. However, Job asks a step further: What do I believe about God during this time? If, when suffering prolongs, God seems to become smaller in our eyes, it may mean we have lost sight of His greatness. In such moments, clinging to 오늘의 말씀 and holding onto a single verse can sustain us through the day. Sometimes, a single word from the Scripture can rebuild our souls without lengthy explanations.
To see Job more clearly, we can also reflect on 묵상이란. Job is not a book merely to gather information; it is one that shines a light on our hurried judgments and shallow certainties. It urges us to ask ourselves: Have I ever spoken like friends in front of someone suffering? Have I distanced myself from God when I couldn’t find answers? Do I still stay in dialogue with God despite doubts?
Job does not provide all the answers about the reasons for suffering. Instead, it teaches us that even amidst suffering, God does not disappear behind silence. There are days when trust is needed more than understanding, and moments when we need to see God's greatness more than seeking explanations. If today’s reading of Job finds you in such a posture, do not rush to conclusions. It’s okay to cry and to lament. Just don’t stop speaking to God like Job did. In that honest wrestling, the Lord will not let your faith become vain.
